Head Nurse plans and implements the overall nursing policies, procedures, and services for a unit. Maintains nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training clinical staff. Being a Head Nurse ensures that nurses are current in competencies, assessments, licensure, certifications, and other annual training. May provide direct patient care and is responsible for assessing, planning, and evaluating patients. Additionally, Head Nurse requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. Seeking experienced Perioperative RN
The role of the perioperative nurse is to provide care for patients before, during, and after surgery, surgical procedures, and endoscopic procedures. The operating room nurse job description also includes the role of patient educator, circulating nurse, and/or scrub nurse potentially with additional training. Circulating OR nurses work within the operating suite but outside of the sterile field; scrub OR nurse handle and prepare operating instruments and equipment within the sterile field. To work as a scrub OR nurse requires additional training as stated above. Pre-op and Post-op nurse work in the PACU area.
