Head Nurse - Obstetrics directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the delivery room and birthing units. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Obstetrics typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a 50%-100% Staff Nurse to work at the Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery Clinic.
Duties to include:
- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Assist with Pre-operative education for Otolaryngology surgical patient populations from Pediatrics to Adult
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
- Assist in clinic with MA & MD staff weekly clinics
- Assist with Minor Procedures with in clinic, Minor Room and Surgicenter Procedures.
- Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Assist with Telephone Triage 1-2 times per week
- Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
- Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
- Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.

Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00-5:00 pm. Hours may vary to meet the needs of the clinic.
Salary: $60,000 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate. Salary will be based on years of experience and percent effort.

A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
Required Qualifications:- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
- General computer skills are required
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required
Desired Qualifications:- Otolaryngology experience desired
- Certified in Specialty area within Ambulatory
