Head Nurse - Obstetrics directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the delivery room and birthing units. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Obstetrics typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     General Summary:

    The nurse educator is accountable for advancing and maintaining clinical staff competence, enhancing professional nursing practice, and supporting achievement of career goals, building on the educational and experiential base of nurses across the novice to expert continuum for the ultimate objective of ensuring delivery of efficient, effective, ethical, safe, quality, and compassionate patient care. Cultivates an environment that promotes lifelong learning by supporting the development of effective, quality, innovative, and creative education activities, implementing evidence-based practice innovations, and continuously evaluating further learning needs and/or practice changes. Demonstrates core competency in key clinical service areas.

    Requirements:

    • A BSN with Michigan Registered Professional Nurse licensure required.
    • Master’s degree preferred.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider—required.
    • Three years of clinical nursing experience required.
    • Experience in nursing education or professional development is preferred.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and various computer software applications.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, internal departments and external agencies.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Develops, coordinates and implements activities for orientation/onboarding, nursing application (practice, policy, products) and continuing education/professional development related to system, site and/or specialty.
    • Responsible for developing, implementing and leading evidence-based, quality educational programs and activities which promote individual development and competency among nursing department personnel.
    • Assesses learner characteristics, including learning styles and learning needs for program development. Creates an effective learning environment, demonstrates proficiency in use of technology. Evaluates the outcomes of staff education, functions in the roles of both teacher and facilitator.
    • Implements a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learner’s characteristics, learning needs, cultural perspectives, and outcome objectives. Plans programs that are culturally relevant and that incorporate concepts of multicultural and multigenerational education.
    • Provides clinical and educational expertise that directly or indirectly influences nurses and healthcare personnel
    • Designs, implements, and evaluates educational programs that reflect organizational vision and values with awareness of current healthcare trends.
    • Advises in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of materials, learning environments (i.e. virtual), and teaching strategies appropriate to the situation and learner’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, and culture.
    • Uses the roles of advisor, change agent, collaborator, communicator, consultant, facilitator, leader, mentor, researcher to impact patient safety and quality outcomes through professional development initiatives.
    • Promotes the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and use of evidence to guide clinical practice and improve patient care while advancing professional development.
    • Role models practices for creating and sustaining positive learning and practice environments.
    • Maintains knowledge of nursing trends and educational techniques and program evaluation methods consistent with ANPD Scope and Standards.
    • Applies advanced knowledge of nursing in the delivery of evidenced-based nursing and education interventions using the educational design process to bridge the knowledge, skills, and/or practice gaps identified through a needs assessment.
    • Professional development representative on various committees
    • Utilizes American Nurses Credentialing Center-Commission on Accreditation/Wisconsin Nurses Association Continuing Education Approval Program (ANCC-COA/WNA CEAP) criteria to assess needs, plan, implement and evaluate continuing nursing education activities which qualify for continuing education credit. Participates in activities regarding changes to the ANCC-COA/WNA CEAP criteria, the policies/procedures, and the expectations of the Nurse Planner role.
    • Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
