Being a Head Nurse - Occupational Health conducts regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify any health or safety hazards. Maintains records, investigates accidents and injuries, prepares appropriate reports for OSHA, and ensures compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations. Additionally, Head Nurse - Occupational Health coordinates the procurement, review, and project management of contracts and service agreements with outside vendors. Occupational health nurses at Michigan Medicine Occupational Health Services (OHS) specialize in the care of Michigan Medicine and University of Michigan employees. Duties include telephone and walk in triage of work-related injury and illness, managing body substance exposure reporting, follow-up, and prevention education, and evaluation of communicable diseases exposure and follow-up. In addition, OHS occupational health nurses perform pre-placement exams for new health system employees and volunteers, ensuring system health standards are met as a condition of employment.
