Head Nurse - Occupational Health directs nursing service activities for occupational health services. Develops and conducts training programs to promote employee safety in the workplace. Being a Head Nurse - Occupational Health conducts regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify any health or safety hazards. Maintains records, investigates accidents and injuries, prepares appropriate reports for OSHA, and ensures compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations. Additionally, Head Nurse - Occupational Health coordinates the procurement, review, and project management of contracts and service agreements with outside vendors. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Occupational Health manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Occupational Health typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Summary:
    • Implement treatment plans ordered by the physician as indicated by the plan of care to all patients on caseload.
    • Review caseload with supervising OT on a regular basis as established by best practice and/or State guidelines.
    • Evaluates the significance of assessment findings and communicates pertinent information about the patient’s clinical status and ongoing needs to others in a timely fashion.
    • Guarantees that changes in patients’ clinical status are communicated to other healthcare team members, necessary office staff, and physician as per Agency policy.
    • Educates patients, their families/caregivers, and other staff as appropriate, in appropriate occupational therapy modalities.
    • Delivers occupational therapy modalities appropriate to the patient’s clinical status and needs, and in accordance with the standard of care for patient’s age.
    • Provides clear, concise documentation in medical record as it relates to reimbursement guidelines and Agency policy and procedure.
    • Appropriately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
    • Utilizes appropriate pain management modalities that include, but are not limited to, occupational therapy modalities.
    • Provides occupational therapy modalities in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
    • Participates in case conferences to discuss multidisciplinary team responsibilities, patient progress, plans for continued care, new problems, etc.
    • Recommends for needed referrals to other disciplines and/or community resources.
    • Obtains needed supplies and equipment to provide care.
    • Supports cultural practices as long as these practices do not harm the patient/family or interfere with the planned course of medical treatment.
    • Teaches, supervises, and counsels the patient, caregiver, and family members regarding nursing care needs.
    • Participates in the agency Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
    • Identifies risk of injuries or threats to life and health in the patient’s environment (e.g. environmental/safety/mobility risks) and implements appropriate interventions to reduce those risks.
    • Maintains current knowledge of community resources. Identifies and accesses appropriate external and internal resources to meet patient and/or family needs and to facilitate optimal patient outcomes while home care services are being provided, and for transfer and discharge processes.
    Education/Experience Requirements:
    • Meets all of the following:
      • Is licensed or otherwise regulated, if applicable, as an occupational therapy assistant by the state in which practicing, unless licensure does apply.
      • Graduated after successful completion of an occupational therapy assistant education program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education, (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. (AOTA) or its successor organizations.
      • Is eligible to take or successfully completed the entry-level certification examination for occupational Therapy assistants developed and administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT).
    • On or before December 31, 2009:
      • Is licensed or otherwise regulated as an occupational therapy assistant, if applicable, by the state in which practicing; or any qualifications defined by the state in which practicing, unless licensure does not apply; or must meet both of the following:
        • Competed certification requirements to practice as an occupational therapy assistant established by a credentialing organization approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
    • After December 31, 1977 and on or before December 31, 2007:
      • Completed certification requirements to practice as an occupational therapy assistant established by a credentialing organization approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association; or completed the requirements to practice as an occupational therapy assistant applicable in the state in which practicing.
    • On or before December 31, 1977:
      • Had 2 years of appropriate experience as an occupational therapy assistant; and
      • Had achieved satisfactory grade on an occupational therapy assistant proficiency examination conducted, approved, or sponsored by the U.S. Public health Service.
    • If education outside the United States, on or after January 1, 2008:
      • Graduated after successful completion of an occupational therapy assistant education program that is accredited as substantially equivalent to occupational therapist assistant entry level education in the United States by—
        • The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
        • Its successor organizations.
        • The World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
        • By a credentialing body approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association; and successfully completed the entry level certification examination for occupational therapy assistants developed and administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT).
    • Prior Home Health experience preferred
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
    • Proof of automobile insurance (MVR checked)
    • Proof of current CPR certification
    • Able to pass criminal background check and national sex offender clearance
