Head Nurse - Occupational Health directs nursing service activities for occupational health services. Develops and conducts training programs to promote employee safety in the workplace. Being a Head Nurse - Occupational Health conducts regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify any health or safety hazards. Maintains records, investigates accidents and injuries, prepares appropriate reports for OSHA, and ensures compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations. Additionally, Head Nurse - Occupational Health coordinates the procurement, review, and project management of contracts and service agreements with outside vendors. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Occupational Health manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Occupational Health typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Hours: Part-time 40 hours per pay (Dependent on Department Schedule)

    Position Summary:
    Utilizes the nursing process to provide and direct patient care according to the established policies, procedures, and guidelines of the department and hospital. Has knowledge of the clinical interventions and equipment necessary to meet the specific needs of the patient population served.

    Position Accountabilities:
    • Conducts a systematic and ongoing assessment of patient health status from admission to discharge across the continuum of care including all aspects of the individual: age, gender, spiritual, physical, and psychosocial dimensions.
    • Plans and provides patient care by utilizing current scientific knowledge, theory, and standards of care that is individualized, age specific, and directed toward desired patient outcomes appropriate to the Occupational Health setting.
    • Identifies and prioritizes nursing care and patient problems based on subjective and objective assessment data targeting desired patient outcomes and nursing interventions.
    • Implements the appropriate nursing interventions unique to the patient’s health care needs.
    • Conducts interventions as appropriate based on nursing assessment.
    • Evaluates care by ongoing assessment throughout patient interactions.
    • Evaluates and supervises unlicensed, assistive health care providers in delivering patient care.
    • Maintains professional competency through continuing education, licensure, and professional activities.
    • Updates employee Bureau of Workers Compensation and MCO’s as appropriate regarding patient outcomes.
    • Operates specialized equipment with appropriate certification for use in testing and screening of patients with reporting of findings as mandated of spirometry, audiometry, breath alcohol analyzer, vision tester, and drug screening collection.
    • Provides consultation expertise to companies upon request.
    • Markets Occupational Health Services to new and existing clients on an ongoing basis.
    • Demonstrates professional conduct and appearance and is accountable for actions and outcomes.
    • Performs duties in a cost-effective manner to avoid wasting hospital resources (including human capital) without jeopardizing quality of care and service.
    • Contributes to ongoing performance improvement activities within the department to improve function, processes, and /or systems.

    Position Qualifications:

    Education – Required: Licensed to practice professional nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.

    Education – Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree

    Minimum Experience: Minimum of two years acute injury care.

    Preferred Experience: Previous experience in Occupational Health of related field.

    Competencies Required: Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work independently to get task completed. Knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety and related client needs appropriate to the age of the client served. Organized in approach to time and task. Able to address problems in order of priority and manage multiple demands and priorities. Able to analyze a situation and recommend a plan of action.

    Physical Demands: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time, but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls, and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding for a working even though the amount of force exerted is negligible. The position requires the successful completion of a medical examination after offer of hire has been made. The position requires the employee to be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.

    Work Environment: Office environment. Occasional unpleasant and/or stressful work related situations. The position may receive exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

    Work Schedule: Hospital business hours, may vary depending on department needs. Requires occasional attendance at meetings at various times of the day and evening. Must be willing to work according to hospital needs.
