Head Nurse - Occupational Health directs nursing service activities for occupational health services. Develops and conducts training programs to promote employee safety in the workplace. Being a Head Nurse - Occupational Health conducts regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify any health or safety hazards. Maintains records, investigates accidents and injuries, prepares appropriate reports for OSHA, and ensures compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations. Additionally, Head Nurse - Occupational Health coordinates the procurement, review, and project management of contracts and service agreements with outside vendors. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Occupational Health manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     • Perform a variety of specialized tasks involving medical readiness and physical exam activities.
    • Utilize medical software to schedule appointments.
    • Prepare correspondence and summaries of medical records in response to a variety of requests.
    • Obtain, review and update patient medical records prior to appointment.
    • Receive visitors and telephone calls to facility.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.     Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; conducting medical testing/screenings to include audiometric, vision, pulmonary and/or electrocardiograms, and performing clerical duties support work such records keeping, scheduling appointments and updating information in a medical database. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

    Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Occupational Health or other related field of study.

    OR

    Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
