Head Nurse - Occupational Health directs nursing service activities for occupational health services. Develops and conducts training programs to promote employee safety in the workplace. Being a Head Nurse - Occupational Health conducts regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify any health or safety hazards. Maintains records, investigates accidents and injuries, prepares appropriate reports for OSHA, and ensures compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations. Additionally, Head Nurse - Occupational Health coordinates the procurement, review, and project management of contracts and service agreements with outside vendors. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Occupational Health manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Occupational Health typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Summary: Responsible for the development and administration of efficient and professional operations of occupational health services in accordance with company policies, practices, procedures, and applicable regulations to achieve the desired goals and objectives for the Lexington, NC Nippon Electric Glass Facility. Assists with all aspects of health services staffing, competency, processes, customer service, and quality improvement.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.   Oversee and manage the administrative and operational activities of occupational health services Assure compliance with regulatory requirements related to clinical operations Responsible for securing and developing all records, equipment, and programs related to occupational health services Collaborate with outside resources for program development, such as healthcare providers, third-party administrators, legal advisors, medical director, regulatory agencies, etc.  Responsible for assuring the appropriate access and utilization of healthcare services Evaluate and treat all injuries and illnesses in an efficient and professional manner within the scope of practice and consistent with clinical nursing guidelines.  Guide and direct all referrals to outside healthcare providers and services  Provide or manage the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirement, such as OSHA, Department of Transportation, CDC, etc. Assist ergonomic team to assess jobs and provide input regarding ergonomic improvements. Assist with leadership and training of the internal plant EMT program.  Administer the company’s Drug-Free Workplace Program.  Assist with the accident investigation program to identify root cause analysis of all incidents and near misses.  Provide appropriate case management Manage all cases to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and return to work Includes workers’ compensation, short- and long-term disability cases Assess healthcare needs, then implement and manage healthcare programs to improve health and facilitate return to work, maintain OSHA records/ reports and worker medical files Assist departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duty. Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety, Operations, and Human Resources to develop operations, programs, and services by providing content expertise. Contribute in the design of controls for injury prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment. Identify primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and health promotion   Education and/or Experience: Active North Carolina State nursing license as Registered Nurse. Bachelor’s Degree and certification in occupational health nursing or case management preferred. Basic understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to occupational and environmental health and safety.  Language Skills Ability: to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Mathematical Skills Ability: to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills: Intermediate computer skills are essential in use of an electronic medical record. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Active state license as registered nurse. Certified as occupational health nurse or case manager. Other Skills and Abilities: Must be detail oriented, have ability to multitask and possess great interpersonal skills. Travel to other company locations may be required for training/assistance.
