Job Summary
Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital surgical setting.
Responsibilities And Scope
Administers patient care under the direction of a physician. Identifies and pursues expected patient outcomes in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures.
Develops a plan of care to protect patient safety, prevent injury, and ensure optimal care outcomes. Identifies expected patient outcomes specific to surgical procedures through assessment, implementation, and evaluation of care, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
Assesses and monitors patients per documented policy and procedure.
Collaborates with and assists interdisciplinary care team in the provision of surgical care.
Documents care performed before, during and after surgical encounter in electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) tool.
Performs surgical instrument and supply count. Administers interventions during patient movement and positioning in order to prevent injury. Ensures proper patient identification, site marking and surgical consent.
Collect, label and coordinate delivery of specimens to laboratory as well as order appropriate testing.
Communicates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care using cultural competency and active listening. Develops relationships with patients and their families that promote their ability to advocate for patient and family needs.
Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
Qualifications
Required
Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states by the day of clinical care.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred
One (1) year of experience working in a registered nurse role in a surgical setting.
