Duties

The Operating Room Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population in the perioperative setting. The Operating Room Registered Nurse possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting, which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others. The Operating Room Registered Nurse performs duties as a charge nurse in a professional and effective manner to include the following:

• Assist with orientation of new staff to the clinical area.
• Ensure staff compliance with mandatory training and required competencies.
• Initiate and participate in process improvement endeavors.
• Manage daily OR function, supplies, equipment, and processes.
• Report pertinent findings to management.
• Demonstrates clinical knowledge, skills, and abilities to independently plan and deliver technically competent strategies for the recruitment and retention of the nursing workforce through the use of the nursing process.
• With occasional supervision, utilizes nursing process to manage, prioritize, and organize recruitment and retention tasks to meet challenging staffing and workforce needs. Manages and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner. Uses clinical knowledge to direct activities of other staff as appropriate.
• Utilizes nursing knowledge and the nursing process to prioritize, manage and organize recruitment and retention in order to meet challenging staffing and workforce needs.
• Applies clinical knowledge to function as an emerging leader in providing direction of nursing workforce recruitment and retention.
• With general supervision, develops the ability to use the nursing process to improve the onboarding process for nursing candidates.
• Utilizes nursing knowledge to screen candidates to determine the best qualified based on expectations of the specific position.
