Head Nurse - Psychiatric Unit directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the psychiatric unit. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and psychiatric staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of psychiatric patient clinical records, and writes reports on psychiatric staff performance and services rendered. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of Nursing preferred, licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado required; Minimum three (3) years previous nursing leadership experience in a hospital setting with supervisory experience in a psychiatric hospital or other mental health-related field required or a Masters Degree in Nursing with 3 years of Nursing experience. Job purpose:
Provides unit-based leadership for the emergency department and unit 300 staff. Administratively responsible for the nursing care provided by licensed staff nurses (RNs and LPNs) and unlicensed clinical staff (MHWs and CNAs). Reports to the Director of Nursing. Provides clinical oversight to admissions team. Works closely with the leadership team who supervises the admissions team to ensure process development and overall ER operations run in an efficient manner. Provides input into the hospital strategic planning, organizational goals, process & procedures, budgets, evaluation of nursing care, quality improvement, and risk management to the Director of Nursing and/or Quality Manager. Responsible for all aspects of Human Resource functions such as hiring, discipline, scheduling, etc. under the direction and guidance of the Director of Nursing and/or Human Resources Department. Responsible for ensuring the Intake/Admissions process for incoming patients is done in a timely manner. Provides direction to the nursing staff for complex cases. Provides referral, authorization, and medical review services as needed. May be required to assume the duties of Nursing Supervisor when needed. May be required to cover other units as needed in the absence of a colleague.
