    TITLE: Head Teacher

    DEPARTMENT: Education

    REPORTS TO: Youth Program Administrator

    • Part-time, Exempt

    JOB OVERVIEW:

    COMO Kids is enrichment programming for students in elementary and middle school. COMO Kids is curriculum-based, state-licensed child care programs that focus on providing engaging, age-appropriate activities under the supervision of caring, qualified staff. Programs include before and after-care, summer camp and School's Out Vacation Care. The COMO Kids Head Teacher, under the supervision of the Youth Program Administrator is responsible for providing leadership in creating and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum, assessing children's performances, effectively communicating with parents and supervising staff in the child care program, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the CT Office of Early Childhood and The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).


    Duties

    KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

    1. Program Development

    • Assume responsibility for implementing and overseeing curriculum that supports child development and is in accordance with the State of CT Office of Early Childhood and NAEYC regulations for children aged preschool-12 years.
    • Provide daily coverage in preschool
    • Supervise and assist staff with the implementation of daily curriculum
    • Demonstrate ability to physically work with children in a variety of settings including indoors (on the floor, at tables) and outdoors (playground, walks)
    • Ensure that children are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas and activities, encouraging independence in their activities.
    • Establish and maintain good working relationships with parents.
    • Demonstrate and model professionalism and maintain confidentiality.
    • Complete any other duties as assigned by the Education Director and/or the Youth Program Administrator.

    2. Safety and Security

    • Assume overall responsibility for the protection of the group of children at the site, ensuring that first aid equipment is consistently available, as well as
    • Supervise the staff and children in keeping the area neat and clean, and ensuring that children know and observe the safety rules.
    • Have proper paperwork and medications in place for children as needed.
    • Maintain accurate daily sign in/out forms and inform supervisor of any changes in children's attendance.
    • Assure that teachers sign in and out on a daily basis.
    • Report all accidents, incidents, and problems to the parent/guardian and Education Director, and file appropriate reports immediately.

    3. Supervision and Implementation of Program

    • Be responsible for posting the weekly activities and monthly snack schedules and reviewing them with staff.
    • Ensure that activities are set up every day.
    • Make sure that supplies are in good condition and available and organized for children's use.
    • Any written correspondence to parents is approved by supervisor.
    • Ensure that there is daily correspondence with parents.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Obtain endorsement on your drivers' license to drive the COMO Kids van for children's use.
    • Attend and contribute to all scheduled staff meetings.
    • Continue Professional Development by completing a minimum of 1% of the total number of hours worked per year in classes, seminars or workshops.
    • Obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications
    • May be asked to oversee or participate in special programs and/or events (i.e. Family Nights, field trips, parent workshops, organization-wide activities, etc.)
    • Adhere to dress code.

    Requirements

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to obtain a designated Head Teacher License from the State of CT Office of Early Childhood.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
    • Ability to work with children with behavioral issues.
    • COVID-19 Considerations:

    To keep our staff and families safe, as a licensed and nationally accredited childcare center, we both meet and exceed COVID-19 protocols. All newly hired staff are required to be fully-vaccinated, as defined by the CDC.

    EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education is preferred.

    EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year work experience with children is required

    PAY: $18 - $19.50 per hour, depending upon education and experience.

    SCHEDULE: Monday: 1-6pm, Tuesday-Friday: 12-6pm
