    JOB DESCRIPTION 

     

    Summary/Objective 

     

    The Director, Data Engineering will work with other IT teams, business leaders and business partners to drive direction and set priorities for Database Administration, Data Warehouse and Data Visualization initiatives from concept through implementation and support. This role manages IT Data Visualization/Reporting and Database Administration personnel, provides Database Administration, Data Warehousing and Data Visualization expertise and executes the Data Management strategic vision for key risk initiatives. The Director, Data Engineering will also provide data management, analytics, and technology thought leadership to the enterprise. This role will advise best practices in database administration, data governance/ownership, data warehouse, data integration, data modeling, and data management methodologies and approaches.

    • Provides data management, analytics, and technology thought leadership to the enterprise
    • Works directly with business leaders to understand and prioritize opportunities where data and analytical insights can provide significant business value
    • Proactively manages the selection and delivery of enabling data management and visualization technologies
    • Coaches/mentors team members to yield maximum value to the business
    • Collaborates with customers concerning demand/resource management and the prioritization of work
    • Manages the teams’ workload and delivery of high-quality deliverables on a timely (and cost-effective) basis
    • Develops multi-year data management plans that are aligned to the overall business strategies and needs
    • Effectively communicates the data management vision and plans to gain business stakeholder consensus
    • Develops supporting budget and resource plans
    • Develops a strong, collaborative partner and vendor network aligned to executing the data management plans
    • Applies broad knowledge of technology options, technology platforms, design techniques and approaches across the data warehouse life cycle phases to design an integrated, quality solution to address the business requirements
    • Collaborates with business users on requirements, objectives and measures, while building scalable processes that improve customer satisfaction.
    • Innovates and drives continuous improvements to the technology infrastructure and operational processes.
    • Facilitates the design and drives the planning for the integration of all data warehouse components, with scalability, performance, and availability in mind.
    • Drives and reviews the design and testing of data models, reporting and analytic tools, and data extracts/transforms.
    • Continue to build an effective development organization by driving the recruiting and hiring of data engineers, developing and managing the group, and conducting performance reviews of team members.
    • Facilitates the adoption of the software engineering best practices within the organization, including reporting, tools, and evolution of development methodology.

     

    Qualifications

    • 5  years’ experience data visualization/reporting tools and data warehousing.
    • Demonstrated experience in Data Management/Reporting/ETL Development tool sets and knowledge and hands-on experience in rolling out to an enterprise organization
    • 3 years’ experience in facilitating efforts of “blended” teams (i.e., internal IT staff; third party systems integrators or vendors; internal      business/operations staff; other resources).
    • Experienced in recognizing areas and symptoms of project risk; must be able to escalate issues and risks to appropriate parties, and work collaboratively across company lines to drive resolution and ensure transparency.
    • Demonstrated experience with various project management methodologies, including Agile methodologies and supporting techniques (e.g. Test Driven Development and continuous integration processes), packaged system implementations, and traditional specification-driven approaches.
    • Experience with Cloud data platforms. AWS Redshift a strong plus.
    •  Bachelor’s  degree in IT, engineering, or business, or equivalent experience.
    • 3 years experience in financial services; lending experience a plus.
    • Must be a high-energy leader able to delegate and mentor effectively, yet roll up their sleeves when required to achieve results and/or demonstrate effective behavior.
    • Proven track record of recruiting and retaining strong talent.
    • Must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills, with a proven track record of executing calmly against tough deadlines.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

     

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position with a work schedule of Monday-Friday with some schedule variations as needed.

     

    Travel

    This position will require up to 10% travel.
