Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. The Marion County Health Department is hiring a full-time Nutrition Educator to service Marion, Franklin, and Grundy County Health Departments. This Nutrition Educator will provide nutrition education and counseling for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program, assess nutrition status, and determine appropriate food packages and/or therapeutic products for high-risk infants, children, and women when needed. This Nutrition Educator will work in a collaborative manner with both the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and the nursing teams in each location to best serve the clients in each community. This Nutrition Educator will provide education on the importance of proper nutrition, activity, immunization, and the negative impacts of substance misuse and abuse. Training will be provided.
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree, including 9 quarter hours in human nutrition, 4 quarter hours in human anatomy or physiology, and 4 quarter hours in education, psychology, or counseling.
Additional Information: Employees in this position can qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program run through the Federal Student Aid program.
