    SENIOR HEALTH EDUCATOR

     

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    To provide health education and prevention services at designated high schools as part of the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) program in coordination with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH), school administrators, school service providers, and community agencies.

    • Coordinate with school faculty, students, and families to provide prevention and health education programming in the high school and clinical setting.
    • Consult with students one-on-one to provide education on specific health issues as requested by clinic staff, or deliver health education messages in group settings within the school as part of a comprehensive health education program.
    • Lead health education program development, planning, and implementation.
    • Provide support and oversight to other health educator(s) at SBHC schools.
    • Provide administrative support for program manager.
    • Maintain strong links with school faculty and administrative staff.
    • Develop rapport with students and maintain an active presence on school campuses.
    • Conduct informational and introductory presentations/meetings about SBHC services for parents, staff, and other community stakeholders, and participate in other public relations activities as needed.
    • Develop written and visual resources and awareness campaigns addressing adolescent issues such as community-acquired infections, teen violence, family relationships, healthy behaviors, etc.
    • Nurture and develop a network of community partners to link students to needed services and to build a coalition focused on improving adolescent health.
    • Act as liaison between community partners and the SBHC program.
    • Monitor and follow up on Client Satisfaction Surveys across all school clinics.
    • Assist with development of and updates to SBHC and health education policies and procedures.
    • Provide support and empowerment for teens to obtain needed services, and advocate for client concerns within the health care team and in the community.
    • Inform members of the health care team of changes in community, state and federal programs and policies that directly impact the provision of adolescent services. Act as an information source concerning available community services.
    • Compose and submit written reports regarding progress on health education program activities and outcomes.
    • Collect and analyze relevant data to identify trends, evaluate health education program effectiveness, and inform decision making.
    • Develop and guide youth advisory councils to provide feedback on clinic operations and to promote and facilitate peer-driven health initiatives in schools.
    • Assist with monthly SBHC data analysis and reporting to funders and stakeholders.
    • Identify potential funding opportunities and assists with grant applications, procurement, and implementation. Ensure grant deliverables are met on time.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree in public health or related field and two years experience working in health education required, or five years experience working in health education required in lieu of degree.
    • Minimum of one year experience bringing together stakeholders for a project or initiative required.
    • Ability to travel between work locations in Pinellas County required.
    • Ability to start work between 6:30 and 7:20 a.m. required.
    • Master’s degree in public health or related field from an accredited institution preferred.
    • Experience in public health program development and/or curriculum development preferred.
    • Experience working in schools preferred.
    • Experience working with teens or adolescents preferred.

     

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to travel to different locations within Pinellas County.
    • Reliable transportation.
    • Ability to start work between 6:30 a.m. to 7:20 a.m.

    Where You Will Work:

    This position will be based out of Largo High School Clinic and work with Pinellas Park High School Clinic and will oversee Health Educator duties at the following clinics: Gibbs, Boca Ciega, and Northeast High School should assistance be needed. This is a 10 month and 40 hour work week position that follows the school schedule. The clinic has limited hours during the summer, typically all clinic staff return approximately 2.5 weeks prior to school starting in August.
