Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.     Purpose: Provide ALFA’s services and promote our mission to the larger community. Provide compassionate, judgment free risk reduction counseling, rapid testing and harm reduction services.

    Job Summary: Responsible for providing HIV/STI/HCV counseling and testing, linkage to care services and coordination of referral services into other appropriate programs to groups or individuals, assistance with the harm reduction program and other tasks in office. Assistance with outreach at regular HIV education testing sites and at special events is also required.

    Due to COVID-19 precautions, employees will be expected to follow safety protocols regarding cleaning, social distancing and wearing a face covering when deemed necessary.

    Qualifications:

    • People with lived experience encouraged to apply
    • Bachelor’s degree in Community Health, Public Health or related field or equivalent education and experience
    • Excellent communication, public speaking and writing skills
    • Ability to work with people at high risk of HIV, including people who use drugs, LGBTQ community, minority populations, and others
    • Ability to provide compassionate services guided by harm reduction principles
    • Whetstone and rapid testing certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hiring date
    • Motivated to learn new skills
    • Valid driver’s license and vehicle liability coverage
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
    • Acceptable driving record and criminal background check
    • Completed covid-19 vaccination series

    Strongly preferred, but not required

    • 1-2 years experience in Community Health
    • Phlebotomy skills
    • Spanish speaking
    • Rapid testing certification (HIV, syphilis and HCV)
    • Whetstone certification
    • Knowledge of HIV/HCV/STIs
    • Knowledge of PrEP/PEP
    • Social marketing skills

    Responsibilities

    Community health educators will be cross trained in all prevention activities but will have a specific focus area.

    Testing - primary duties for this position:

    • Contribute to a welcoming, trauma-informed experience for clients
    • Provide rapid HIV/HCV/syphilis CTR services at fixed site location
    • Provide STI testing services at fixed site location
    • Assist with harm reduction program in office
    • Assist with social marketing plan implementation
    • Responsible for prevention supply and specimen sample shipping
    • Responsible for prevention department testing and supply inventory
    • Responsible for positive STI reporting and notification
    • Evaluation Web data entry
    • Complete all state and federally mandated reporting
    • Complete data entry and ensure accuracy and compliance with funding requirements
    • Maintain documentation according to agency requirements
    • Assist in developing, implementing and evaluation of Counseling, Testing and Referral (CTR) goals and objectives
    • Assist with outreach programs and coverages as assigned

    Outreach - not primary duties for this position:

    • Coordinate to facilitate education and testing events, both during and outside of normal business hours
    • Take part in community activities designed to allow target populations to access prevention information
    • Develop and deliver educational presentations to venues and events frequented by target populations
    • Assist in developing, implementing and evaluation of Prevention Department goals and objectives
    • Maintain and expand condom distribution program
    • Operation of Mobile Testing Unit
    • Assist and provide mobile harm reduction services
    • Maintain and expand community partners and non-traditional testing site locations
    • Assist with fixed site services as assigned

    General Duties:

    • Assist with Harm Reduction/Syringe Access program as needed
    • Upon hire, complete rapid testing training, STI testing training and Whetstone certification
    • Other duties as assigned
