This is a highly independent and responsible position working in the Health Education Program that provides support to FDOH-SJC operations, in the areas of Community Health Improvement Initiatives, Public Health Statistics, Quality Improvement, and Community Engagement.
In coordination with FDOH-SJC leadership this position will serve as the Department’s contact and coordinator for Florida Health’s initiatives. Ensures this public-private collaboration bringing together state agencies, not for profit organizations, businesses, and entire communities to help Florida's children and adults to make healthy choices.
Coordinates and assists with the development and implementation of strategies to:
Promotes the Community Health Improvement initiatives among community partners, businesses, childcares, faith-based organizations, and individuals. Provides direct support to community partners to ensure successful implementation of health promotion strategies. Communicates extensively with persons outside the organizations and tailors’ communications to the needs of the audience. Represents the organization to the public, government, and other external sources.
Works with community to provide healthy discussions in schools, community agencies and faith-based organization to encourage policy and system change in relation to disease prevention through the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) goals.
Provides data-collection and research activities related to Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Planning. Coordinate research and response to inquiries from customers and community.
Ensures the integrity/confidentiality of all data sets in the program; complies with the information security protocols and procedures (DOHP50-10-16); security and privacy of client information is maintained; disclosure of confidential information is released only after proper authorization has been obtained; and information that is exempt from public record disclosure is maintained in a confidential manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This position is required to work out-reach events, which may include after-hours and/or Saturday and Sunday. Knowledge of the principles and practices of community-based health promotion planning; knowledge of needs assessment techniques; Knowledge of the principles and practices of health education; Knowledge of methods of data collection and analysis; Skill with utilizing Excel, Access, or other database programs, Skill in communication; Skill with computers and basic software applications; Ability to work with large data sets. Preferably, public health care data; Ability to conduct fact-finding research and utilize problem-solving techniques; Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations and solve problems; Ability to work independently; Ability to listen and communicate effectively; Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Qualifications:
Minimum: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health education, health science, community or public health, nursing, or one of the biological sciences, education, public relations, communications or one of the behavioral sciences.
Working out reach events, which include working beyond normal work hours or days which may include Saturday and/or Sunday.
Valid Drivers License
Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Valid Driver’s License, must be able to lift 20 lbs.
