Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     Description

    The Mental Health/Substance Abuse Health Educator will recommend, implement and sustain educational programs and initiatives which encourage and support a healthy decision making culture. All Juniper Health employees will adhere to the Patient Center Medical Home (PCMH) model and work to ensure that patients of all ages receive comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centered whole patient care. The employee will maintain confidentiality at all times.

    Qualifications


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Implement evidence-based promotion strategies and best practices to create and guide programs.
    • Maintain a current library of MH/SA education relevant materials. Responds promptly to staff who request additional educational resources.
    • Become involved with community partners, local governments, educational institutions include public/private school systems to coordinate and propagate MH/SA educational programs in all appropriate venues.
    • Collect data and other information to analyze needs and evaluate programs
    • Prepare reports for JHI management and other stakeholders
    • Collaborate closely and maintain close relationships with existing MH/SA education programs or other related programs that are already available in the JHI service area.
    • Identify grant opportunities and funding sources for MH/SA health education initiatives. Work with appropriate JHI staff to write and submit grants that would support the program.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Education: Required: Bachelors Degree in a health related field such as RN or public health; Bachelors Degree in education; Bachelors Degree or other minimum degree required in an appropriate behavioral health field.
    • Experience: Five years of experience in community health or community mental health or in another position with the provision of health, behavioral health, education and/or social services highly preferred.
    • Computer Skills: Superior Microsoft Office Suite skills; website management a plus.
    • Certifications & Licenses: Certification as a Health Education Specialist is a plus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Work is typically performed in an external, community environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

    TRAVEL:

    • Travel to JHI sites and/or external meetings and trainings may be required

    OTHER:

    • The employee is expected to work and be available during regular business hours, however, extended hours and weekend work may be required.
