Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. The OR Educator is a clinical role model and first line manager. This position monitors the quality of patient care and ensures maintenance of current skills by organizing education inservices, training sessions, recertification and skill labs for the Perioperative staff. This position monitors the orientation of new employees, provides input into the annual review process and maintains all the education records for the department. The OR Educator keeps the influence policy or procedure revisions. This position also assists in ensuring the quality of nursing care provided to the surgical patient meets the standard of practice consistent with the policies and procedures of the Surgical Services Department and that the management of staff coincides with the rules and regulations outlined in the CNA Agreement and involves supervising, instructing, coordinating and organizing personnel activities, equipment and materials utilized in surgery under the overall direction of the Director of Surgery. Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
1. Organizes inservices, continuing education classes, skills labs and training sessions for the OR Staff and documents the outcomes for governing agencies and annual performance review.
2. Designs orientation sessions for new employees and monitors and documents the progress of staff through the process.
3. Documents and monitors ongoing staff development goals and collaborate with the Director to adjust staff assignments to promote achievements.
4. Maintains clinical proficiency and serves as a role model.
5. Coordinates staffing assignments with the Director to achieve maximum learning opportunities and maintain the highest quality care possible.
6. Participates in hospital and departmental committees as assigned.
7. Updates the departmental procedure manual as necessary to keep current with the changes in surgical techniques and standards.
8. Actively participates in the employee evaluation process with the Director.
9. Assists the OR Staff with the interpretation of Perioperative policies and procedure.
10. Accesses and updates employee files in the computer system.
11. Performs other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
Licensure: Current California RN license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards. See specialty certification requirements.
Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years or OR nursing experience with advanced training and experience in teaching methodology
The hourly rate for this position is $69.15 - $95. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
