Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Provide age-appropriate education to youth and young adults ages 10-29 on sexuality and positive relationships
Support youth with self-confidence, motivation, and self-esteem tactics to help them make healthy decisions
Independently organize and actively engage participation in structured health education programs to encourage healthy lifestyles
Support youth, young adults and families with appropriate community resources
Collaborate with schools and partner organizations to implement and lead youth programs
Educate on human trafficking prevention and address risk factors; Build resilience by strengthening students’ knowledge and skills, and increasing their perception of risk
Assists Promotions Coordinator with outreach design for all Health Education programs
Prepare and submit records and reports as required by programs and funding
Assist with new projects and perform other tasks as assigned by the Public Health Administrator
Perform other duties as assigned or as situations dictateGeneral knowledge of health promotion methods, principles and practicesMinimum Qualifications
High School education and minimum of two (2) years of experience in health education required
Bachelor’s degree in health education, health promotion, social work or other health related field preferred
Valid driver's licenseSpecial Qualifications
Red Cross CPR certification, BLS and State of Iowa Department of Human Services Child and Adult Abuse certification upon hire
Obtain bloodborne pathogen training within 6 months of hire
