Health Informatics Director directs an organization's clinical biostatistics or health informatics department. Oversees the analysis, management and performance of health information data to aid patient care. Being a Health Informatics Director monitors latest software and technology to keep processes up-to-date and efficient. Communicates with other departments and team members to identify new sources of data, ensure data is used effectively, and establish new initiatives. Additionally, Health Informatics Director requires a master's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Health Informatics Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function.     PRIMARY PURPOSE Provide pharmacy services by assisting with design, support, facilitation, clinical data reporting/analysis and implementation of informatics projects as it relates to clinical areas and quality of patient care.

    MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

    Education:

    - Must have a Bachelor's or Pharm.D degree in pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy.

    Experience:

    - Must have three years of pharmacy experience.

    Equivalent Education and/or Experience

    - Completion of a residency program and one year of experience may be substituted for three years of required experience.

    Certification/Registration/Licensure:

    - Must be a licensed Pharmacist in the State of Texas.

    Skills or Special Abilities:

    - Must be able to demonstrate competency in the processes involved in the interface between pharmacists and IT department to support pharmacy practice.

    - Must possess a strong knowledge of pharmacy processes and theory.

    - Must possess basic knowledge of drugs, procedure, equipment, common disease states and patient care monitoring.

    - Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

    - Must possess extensive mathematical skills.

    - Must possess excellent organizational skills.

    - Demonstrates critical thinking/problem solving skills related to patient care, pharmacy practice and the electronic medical record.

    - Must be detail oriented.

    - Must have the ability to make decisions and work independently.

    - Must be able to demonstrate initiative, good change management skills, and a high level of personal motivation.

    - Must be team oriented.

    - Must conduct work in a highly professional manner.

    - Must be able to trust and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.

    - Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with basic computer skills; word processing, spread sheet and data base management software.

    Responsibilities

    1. Educates and communicates effectively with pharmacy staff, management and other departments regarding pharmacy system changes. Works with pharmacy management, pharmacy staff and other department leads to define project objectives and manage the timelines and priorities within IT projects. Assists in problem identification and resolution.

    2. Acts as a resource to physicians, nurses, and patients concerning questions/support related to drug distribution and drug information services in line with hospital and departmental procedures.

    3. Assists in mentoring/training/education (practical and didactic) of pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, technicians on individual teams and/or in area as well as new employees and other healthcare providers. Staffs as a front-line pharmacist as needed.

    4. Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of all subordinates (or peers if performing in a lead rph shift/area role). Ensures quality and accuracy of all activities by technicians. Assists with the selection, mentoring and evaluation of support personnel to ensure maximum utilization of individuals while providing optimal services. Contributes to overall maintenance of quality and compliant pharmacy services.

    5. Assists in regulatory and compliance issues as it related to the department of pharmacy.

    6. Participates with process improvement teams to review and document current processes and workflows, identify and design improvements and incorporate the redesigned processes into current practice when feasible, or with the implementation of the new system.

    7. Coordinates support including processing and follow-up of requests from users or others affected by the Pharmacy dispensing system. Participates in testing of documentation systems.

    8. Collaborates with project team members including peers, physicians, administrators and departmental leaders in defining practices for pharmacy in regard to a multidisciplinary electronic record with an integrated pharmacy dispensing system.

    9. Participates in the maintenance of the dispensing systems of the Pharmacy department, including the review and optimization of clinical processes to most effectively use the system. Assists in the identification of issues and solutions, and the testing and integration of solutions for new implementations and system upgrades.

    10. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the pharmacy department. Participates in the development, documentation and implementation of new policies & procedures for pharmacy dispensing systems. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.

    11. Responsible for maintaining appropriate program and system documentation in accordance with department standards. Creates and maintains technical specifications and documentation of all programs and applications supported in order to ensure quality of information.

    12. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the fields of Pharmacy and IT by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, attending and participating in department staff meetings and meeting with other Pharmacy/IT professionals to ensure the latest technology is available and appropriately used at Parkland. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.

    13. Accepts direction from pharmacy coordinator, manager, senior informatics pharmacist, system analysts and/or team leader and works to improve technical and professional skills through contact and interaction with other IT professionals.

    14. Protects and maintains patient and institutional information in a confidential manner and in a secured environment. Ensures data access limitations through the use of password protection, read only access, and other measures that protect the data from unauthorized or accidental access. 15. Serves as a customer resource for responding to customer concerns and requests, with the assistance of management when necessary. 16. Provides on call application support in set team rotation.
