    Summary/Objective: The Informatics Specialist uses all sources of healthcare data to develop evidence-based solutions to healthcare challenges. The position supports Electronic Health Record (E.H.R.) systems across all departments within the facility by providing continuous applications support primarily onsite with occasional after hours remote assistance, as needed, (onsite and remotely) by troubleshooting and identifying opportunities for clinical information system improvements. This position is the hub for E.H.R. activity. The position coordinates ticket submission, updates information, operationalizes processes, analyzes data to improve quality and processes, coordinates implementation of new applications, new modules, and new functionality.  The Informatics Specialist is the coordinator of E.H.R. activity in collaboration with IT, Clinics, Ancillary Services, Nursing, Finance, and Quality departments to coordinate the program in order to deliver a complete informatics program in a hospital setting. Will work with the clinic informatics specialist to develop trainings and go-live plans, as needed. Will act as a liaison between Caribou Medical Center and E.H.R vendor.

    This position reports to the Chief Clinical Officer.

    Core Position Responsibilities

    • Design and assist with software build of advanced clinical workflows
      • Coordinator of all E.H.R. Activity within the hospital setting
      • Work with identified specialists/Cerner Process people in Finance, IT, Clinical, Ancillary, and quality to build efficient and effective workflows
      • Work with IT to assure that software applications are implemented and maintained, and work with them to purchases of equipment necessary to operate the E.H.R.
      • *** Note: This person is not responsible for the IT functions of Cerner.
    • Technical support for all departments within the facilities
      • Supports the E.H.R. system across all departments within the facility by providing continuous application support, by troubleshooting and identifying opportunities for clinical information system improvement – this is done with cooperation/coordination with the various informatics people they work with (IT, finance, Ancillary, nursing/provider, clinics).
    • Provide training of Electronic Health Record (E.H.R) users
      • This person assures training programs are developed in the various groups
      • They also participate in training to assure compliance. 
    • Analysis:
      • Demonstrates advanced/proficient informatics analysis skills to plan, manage, problem solve, mitigate risk in the deployment of applications and work process transformations related therein. Ability to work independently with little direction. Able to prioritize work according to deadlines and organizational initiatives to produce assigned outcomes.
      • Able to extract data, analyze information, and develop use that information to support processes, change process, and improve workflows.
    • Educate: Acts as a liaison, role model, educator, initial Hospital Emergency provider contact for EMR system on-boarding and champion for end users in understanding, utilizing, optimizing and designing systems and processes to increase efficiency and quality of evidence-based care provision.
    • Process Management: Demonstrates advanced/proficient knowledge of E.H.R. systems life cycles and complies with defined framework for system implementation for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating changes into the electronic medical record system to support operational/business standards and processes. Provides software applications support by troubleshooting daily issues. Acts as liaison between end users and vendor, monitoring tasks for resolution. Monitors system functionality and resolves or reports problems as well as enhancing functionality through process and reports. Participates in or manages the implementation of new applications, new modules, and new functionality, including design, documenting workflow and configuring the application. Person is responsible for ticket coordination and assure update information is disseminated to all appropriate people.
    • Professional Growth: Supports hospital strategic goals by continuously enhancing knowledge and competency in the emerging field of Clinical Informatics and Informatics industry standards.
    • Quality Management: Operationalizes change by using quality methodologies for standardizing processes in accordance with current evidence, quality initiatives, regulatory compliance, billing compliance and eliminating waste. Maintains current knowledge concerning major health IT initiatives at the Federal level, including mandates and standards associated with the Promoting Interoperability of electronic health records and the exchange of electronic health information. Generates reports to aid in consistent communication and transparency of data across the organization that is in alignment with hospital initiatives.
    • Systems Knowledge: Demonstrates proficient understanding of the technical capabilities of our current application systems and applies general system knowledge to facilitate process redesign and continued improvement. Person is a partner with IT to assure these things happen…but IT is responsible for software updates, maintenance, and equipment – all IT functions – working as a partner with the Informatics Specialist.
    • Usability: Demonstrates advanced/proficient knowledge of application and usability concepts.

    Work Environment
    This job operates in a hospital setting.  This role requires regular walking to various locations throughout the hospital/clinic. This role may come in contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses.  There may be risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids, latex, and odors/chemicals, etc. Must be physically able to carry and lift 10 pounds of weight. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods.

    Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements

    Required

    • RN license in the state of Idaho or compact state
    • 3 years’ experience with Electronic Health Record (E.H.R.);
    • The Ideal candidate will have experience in advanced clinical E.H.R. components like Computerized Physician Order Entry, Beside Medication Verification, Medication Reconciliation, Automated Device Capture, etc. 

    Preferred:

    • Experience with training; and 5 years’ experience supporting and/or implementing packaged software application systems within a healthcare setting.
