Health Information Services Director directs and oversees all policies and procedures related to healthcare information management. Responsible for ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the medical records and transcription departments. Being a Health Information Services Director reviews processes and identifies areas for improvement taking into account user needs. May act as liaison between information services and technology department, ensuring that systems are accessible and in accordance with the needs of the organization. Additionally, Health Information Services Director ensures that all record keeping and information disbursement complies with HIPAA regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Health Information Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the social service programs of this facility.
Assist in the development, administering, and coordinating of department policies and procedures.
Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the Administrator.
Review department policies and procedures, at least annually, and participate in making recommended changes
Develop and implement policies and procedures for the identification of medically related social and emotional needs of the resident.
Participate in community planning related to the interests of the facility and the services and needs of the resident and family.
Qualifications:
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
Must be knowledgeable of the rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern nursing care facilities.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level in which they are currently functioning.
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing social services.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
