Health Information Services Director directs and oversees all policies and procedures related to healthcare information management. Responsible for ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the medical records and transcription departments. Being a Health Information Services Director reviews processes and identifies areas for improvement taking into account user needs. May act as liaison between information services and technology department, ensuring that systems are accessible and in accordance with the needs of the organization. Additionally, Health Information Services Director ensures that all record keeping and information disbursement complies with HIPAA regulations.     Job Description:

    Job Summary: The Executive Director Health Information Management oversees the functions and personnel in the Health Information Management department with alignment to the enterprise-wide vision while instituting direct standardization of activities across the HIM department. This role provides input and direction to the strategic plan and goals to meet imperatives as well as develop enterprise-wide policies, procedures, and protocols in adherence with Joint Commission, federal, and state guidelines. The Executive Director will oversee budgets, maintain, manage cost control and collaborate with network leadership to ensure strategic alignment and objective achievement and evaluate/interpret HIM variances and trends to promote efficiency in HIM operations. The Executive Director manages and evaluates activities related to integrating practices and documentation through the use of technology.

    Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

    • Plans, organizes, and implements the Health Information Management (HIM) processes to include providing clinical, technical and analytical evaluation of data and tools necessary to support analysis and meaningful reporting on patient care, market impact and physician relations to executive leadership.

    • Sets performance standards, goals for direct reports and the department. Evaluates and counsels staff on their performance. Provides development opportunities for staff growth. Creates team environment and engagement strategies for a largely remote workforce.

    • Oversees the vision and collaborative partnerships of the Inpatient and Outpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity teams to promote a focus on strategic initiatives for enhancement of quality metrics, infection prevention reporting, throughput, readmissions, and HCC projects.

    • Provides broad oversight of Revenue Integrity functions within the organization and sets expectations for design, development, and implementation of Revenue Integrity and charge capture functions.

    • Facilitate conversations and winning partnerships with Coding, HIM Systems, Documentation Compliance, Electronic Health Record, Nursing, and Provider teams as well as the Medical Staff to develop systems to assure physician compliance with medical record completion requirements.

    • Works closely with the medical staff members individually and/or in committees to meet clinical documentation needs and compliance with all applicable HIM regulations and standards.

    • Oversees the optimization and innovation of collaborative relationships between the Managers of HIM , Information Technology (IT) staff, and system vendors for reporting, troubleshooting, and mitigation of system issues and future growth.

    • Consults with a variety of clients and key stakeholders regarding strategy, business and organization objectives to align and measure Network performance.

    • Evaluates hospital clinical benchmarking tools and hospital data repositories and ensures adequate resources and capabilities are in place for enterprise intelligence reporting.

    • Oversees the direction and coordination for the Network’s activities of obtaining, summarizing, storing and retrieving permanent patient medical records and ensures medical records are maintained in compliance with various accreditation and regulatory agencies.

    • Defines tools to measure progress and ensures consistent achievement of business objectives for the department; evaluates new technology to improve maintenance, handling and retention of patient medical records, recommends new equipment, solutions and methods. Leads implementations.


    Qualifications:


      Required Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree in Business, Data Science, Health Informatics, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or University.
    • Three (3) plus years of experience with HAC, PSI, PPC, Mortality, and 30 day readmission metrics. This doesn’t seem to fit the role we are defining.
    • Three (3) plus years of experience working with electronic healthcare data, including claims, EHR, laboratory, pharmacy, scheduling, etc., preferably in an Epic and Midas environment.
    • AND
    • Credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
    • OR
    • If applicable, team members in this job that hold a professional licensure or credential must keep licensure and credentials current.

    • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Five (5) plus years of experience with MS-DRG, APR-DRG, ICD and CPT coding.
    • Five (5) plus years of experience working with Epic and 3M coding applications. Epic certification in HIM or willingness to be certified is preferred.
