Health Information Services Director directs and oversees all policies and procedures related to healthcare information management. Responsible for ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the medical records and transcription departments. Being a Health Information Services Director reviews processes and identifies areas for improvement taking into account user needs. May act as liaison between information services and technology department, ensuring that systems are accessible and in accordance with the needs of the organization. Additionally, Health Information Services Director ensures that all record keeping and information disbursement complies with HIPAA regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Health Information Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Health Information Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Health Information Management Technician organizes and manages health information data by ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper and electronic systems. Although health information technicians do not provide direct patient care, they work regularly with other healthcare professionals. The Health Information Management Technician will participate in professional development by attending programs, workshops, in-services both internal and external, as well as department meetings, as needed. Essential Duties include:

    • Scan, file and check documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with Wood River Health policies and procedures; 
    • Answering incoming telephone calls in a fast paced call center environment;
    • Enter data, such as diagnostic procedures into EHR; 
    • Record all telephone call messages in EHR;
    • Release patient information to persons or agencies according to Wood River Health policies and procedures;
    • Maintain a variety of health record indexes or storage and retrieval systems to collect and store information;
    • Retrieve labs and reports from outside sources while reviewing existing records for scanning;
    • Schedule, cancel and reschedule patient appointments as necessary, according to clinical protocols and department workflows using Nextgen scheduling;
    • Utilize triage protocols for all inquiries to provide first call resolution. Determine which calls are appropriate for clinical staff; 
    • Protects patients’ health information for confidentiality and data security;
    • Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters
    • Operate within the scope of the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act to safeguard the privacy of protected patient health information
    • Enliven and support the mission, vision, and values of WRH 
    • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures
    • Adhere to the WRH Compliance Program Standards
    • Performing other duties as assigned to meet business needs

    Qualifications

    • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of one-year medical office experience preferred.
    • Electronic Health Records experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
    • Must be able to work independently.
    • Must be able to perform tasks with appropriate speed and accuracy.
    • Must be able to work nights and weekends on rotating basis
