Main Purpose of Job
To conduct safety inspections and preventative maintenance audits of commercial vehicles. Inspections are conducted to determine compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to registration, size, weight, safety and operating authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Notes :
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in the mechanical repair, maintenance, or inspection of commercial motor vehicles on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute additional experience in law enforcement activities including vehicle inspections on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Employees in this classification must possess and maintain certification as required by State Transportation Article, Title 25, Subtitle 111 (h)(2) Respective Powers of State and Local Authorities, Title 49, Sections 107-108 and 300-399 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation and as required by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance guidelines.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in thisclassification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance withCode of Maryland Regulation , Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
2. In accordance with PublicSafety Article, Title 2. Department of State Police, Section 2-204 (b)(6)of the Annotated Code of Maryland, candidates for positions in thisclassification will be subject to an initial drug screening, a physicalexamination and a complete criminal background investigation, to include apolygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made.
Acriminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.
3. Candidates for thisclassification may be given a medical examination to determine their ability toperform the duties of the job classification.
