System Director of Plant Operations and Engineering

  • Responsibilities:
    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Provide administrative oversight to the hospitals of South Texas Health System’s Engineering Departments and Safety Programs. Responsible for the administration and direction of the Engineering program for all hospital facilities. Responsible for the development, implementation & monitoring of the Safety Program. Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and controls the operations of the Engineering, Maintenance and Grounds departments. May serve as the hospital Safety Officer. Maintains compliance with applicable regulatory agency requirements, including; The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and Local agencies, The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc. Manages staff and contractors to adequately to ensure and maintain the efficient and safe operation of all hospital buildings. Plans, predicts, maintains and repairs building and equipment. Utilizes energy management and tracking tools in order to maintain efficient utility operations. Develops and manages operating and capital budgets.

    Qualifications:
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Minimum of ten years supervisory experience in maintenance management or facility engineering.

    2. Minimum of three years in a multi-facility/Health System Facility Management experience required.

    3. Experienced in performing facility physical surveys and conducting building evaluations for NFPA

    compliance standards.

    4. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

    5. Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, Joint Commission and CMS standards, OSHA, EPA and state and local codes and standards.

    6. Experience or working knowledge in all aspects of building trades, including HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry.

    7. Previous project management experience.

    8. Intermediate level computer experience. Including Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Building Management Systems.

    EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
    1. Certification in a technical trade or field related to facility maintenance and/or engineering or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.

    2. Current Certified Healthcare Facility Manager certification preferred.

    3. Valid driver’s license in State of Texas is required.
