Health Underwriter, Sr. jobs in Cleveland, OH

UFG is looking for a Sr. Production Underwriter to join our team who will be responsible for writing profitable business for the company, building and maintaining strong working relationships with the agency force, and evaluating new submissions for acceptability within underwriting parameters. This role will work to achieve a $1M - $3M growth goal and continually assess growth trajectory and profitability of agents in their territory.  This senior level role emphasizes the promotion of a positive image for the company and helps to resolve escalated service concerns within their assigned territory.

This is a remote opportunity, but the individual in this role must reside in the Cleveland, OH metro area.

Responsibilities:

• Solicit new business and develop a pipeline to source submissions.
• Underwrite and price new business
  • Evaluate risk and coverages by reviewing applications, MVR’s, Experience Mods, loss experience, loss control reports, and product brochures for risk acceptability.
• Responsible for maintaining a renewal book of business of approximately $1 million in premium.
• Develop, analyze, and evaluate information and exposures for complex risks.
• Review applications, endorsement requests, and renewals for limits and coverages requested.
• Actively gather information to determine risk acceptability. Select critical information, review daily claims sheet, and work with marketing to monitor production and loss ratio for each agency.
• Demonstrate creative problem solving in the evaluation of acceptance/placement of risk within the existing portfolio.
• Price risks and negotiate to ensure that risk is properly classed. Place risk in proper program, review renewals, work with agents and CSRs to obtain a saleable program for the agent/insured while avoiding adverse selection.
• Achieve production goals within assign territory
  • Responsible for marketing and territory prospecting to include regular visits to agencies and insureds, aiding agents in placing new accounts, and quoting additional coverages.
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with producers and agencies
• Collaborate with Marketing, Risk Control, and other internal partners.
• Complete agency reviews and recommend coverages and rate changes. Provide feedback to management on the current state of the marketplace, agencies, and competition. Prospect territory looking for new agency appointments.
• Mentor and train team members

Qualifications:

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required; four-year college degree preferred.
• Completion of AINS and AU designations.
• Completion of or working towards CIC and/or CPCU designations preferred.

Experience:

• 7 commercial lines underwriting experience to include risk evaluation skills and solid insurance contract knowledge.

Working Conditions:

• General office conditions on some days.
• Travel required. On average, 1-3 nights per week away from home
