Health Underwriting Director directs and oversees the health insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups for medical and/or dental insurance. Responsible for ensuring integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Health Underwriting Director manages staff of underwriters at the organization. Provides assistance to underwriters on more complex applications. Additionally, Health Underwriting Director has a strong knowledge of the underwriting discipline. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Health Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. JOB SUMMARY
The job is responsible for key leadership with all aspects of administering SDoH community health initiatives in New York and more specifically Buffalo, to include but not limited to crafting and implementing SDOH strategies, building cross-sectoral collaborations, overseeing research and data-driven interventions, and promoting health equity. Interfacing regularly with various internal departments, this position will implement strategic objectives into actionable programs, supporting evaluation frameworks to determine program effectiveness and offering essential guidance to the communities we serve. Operating within a matrixed structure, this position requires expert navigation of indirect management and collaboration across multifaceted teams throughout the enterprise. Working hand-in-hand with the SVP and VP Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), this position will drive the development and realization of the CBO engagement strategy, addressing the nuanced SDOH needs of Highmark Health. They will establish close ties with key community benefit organizations (CBOs) throughout Highmark's domain, fostering integration of CBO services with core departments, business units, and internal stakeholders to amplify health outcomes. This job is pivotal in driving and executing the overall SDoH strategy to achieve positive community health outcomes.

Pay Range Minimum:
$108,000.00Pay Range Maximum:
$199,800.00Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations. The displayed salary range does not reflect any geographic differential Highmark may apply for certain locations based upon comparative markets.
