Responsibilities
The Health Information Manager, under general direction of the CFO, provides oversight and coordination of all services and functions of the Health Information Management service. The Health Information Manager will ensure the availability and retrievability of data needed for patient care and administrative reporting and planning. The Health Information Manager's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight of Chart Completion, Image Processing, MPI, Release of Information, Patient Portal, Core Measures, PHC4, Forms Management, Post-Discharge Audits and Appeals, Transcription, Coding, Abstraction and Records Management for acute operations.
Essential Functions:
- Provides direction and supervision for Health Information Management services and staff in order to ensure efficient operations of the department and associated services for the Health System according to established policies and procedures.
- Serves as a subject matter expert in the development and design of the medical record in order to ensure compliance with required formats and guidelines. Maintains a standardized format for patient health information.
- Develops and monitors productivity standards within Health Information Management service areas to ensure efficient operations.
- Oversees the physician deficiency and suspension process for the hospital in conjunction with the Medical Staff Office.
- Oversees the Transcription function, including the timeliness and quality of transcribed documentation in order to meet the established standards for transcription turnaround time and availability of information for patient care.
- Oversees the Coding service to ensure the timely coding and abstraction of inpatient, outpatient, observation and outsourced Emergency Department records in order to maintain an acceptable level of dollars not final billed (DNFB).
- Oversees acute Image Processing operations, including the assembly, analysis, abstraction and scanning of patient health information into an electronic medical record.
- Oversees Records Management operations to ensure proper retention and destruction of all Health System records including, but not limited to, patient health records, billing records and other departmental records.
- Provides oversight for the Release of Information service operations for the health system to ensure compliance with the federal and state regulatory guidelines.
- Leads Patient Portal operations to ensure patient health information is accessible to patients for the purpose of consistent access and retrieval.
- Manages the maintenance of the Master Patient Index for the Health System and manages the associated staffing.
- Manages the Core Measure Abstraction process and associated staffing for the purpose of quality and compliance and manages the associated staffing.
- Administers the PHC4 data collection process and manages the associated staffing.
