Health Underwriting Manager manages the health insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups for medical and/or dental insurance. Ensures integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Health Underwriting Manager participates in the development of master policies and other official documents. Verifies that the account contracts are in compliance with government regulations. Additionally, Health Underwriting Manager typically is a RN with clinical experience. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Health Underwriting Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Health Underwriting Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Job Description

    • Identifies and records loss costs information and underwriting information at residential and commercial property sites (including sprinklered properties) in accordance with corporate standards.
    • Expertise in conducting Commercial Underwriting Surveys, Non-Sprinklered and Sprinklered Loss.
    • Cost Surveys, and other types of commercial property surveys and inspections as directed, maintaining corporate standards of quality, timeliness, and productivity.
    • Plans trips to ensure efficient, cost effective and timely completion of work.
    • Maintains equipment and supplies in accordance with company policies.
    • Provides mentoring and quality assurance to less experienced field staff as assigned.
    • Provides customer service support for Verisk products through on-site visits as assigned.
    • Completes all responsibilities as outlined on annual Performance Plan.
    • Completes all special projects and other duties as assigned.
    • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required, and minimum of five years of related experience required. Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture degree highly desired.
    • One or more professional designations (e.g. P.E., R.A, CFPS, CSP, ARM, ALCM, NFPA and / or CPCU) required.
    • Satisfactory completion of prescribed in-house training or equivalent required and demonstrated ability to perform all field work assignments at this grade level.
    • Expert ability to observe, examine, measure, analyze, map, gather data, and secure transportation to and from all sites.
    • This will involve occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. and regular climbing of stairs and ladders, working in all types of neighborhoods and environments.

    It may be necessary to drive a vehicle for extended periods of time.

    • Excellent customer service and one-on-one interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate ideas and concepts
    • clearly and provide feedback. Ability to conduct on-the-job training and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong proficiency using computers and spreadsheet and word processing software.
    • Valid driver’s license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record in accordance with company policies required.
    • Some overnight travel (in and out of state) required in accordance with business needs.
