Health and Safety Administrator is responsible for identifying hazardous workplace conditions. Takes samples and measurements of hazardous materials, and coordinates the removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Being a Health and Safety Administrator trains employees on safety, company policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to employee safety. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. Additionally, Health and Safety Administrator participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor. To be a Health and Safety Administrator typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Covia is looking for a dynamic Health & Safety Coordinator who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Crane, TX location.
As an HS Coordinator , you will supervise and administer the HS programs in a manner consistent with corporate and governmental standards.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities :
Follow all safety rules and regulations.Immediately stop any person onsite who is seen performing an unsafe act.Assume responsibility for the plant safety and health program.
Inspect the plant monthly and submit a written report to the plant manager, superintendent, and all supervisors.Develop and maintain a regular area inspection program involving all employees at the plant.
Maintain and direct an active safety training program, including MSHA Training and Monthly Safety Meetings.Maintain and update monthly a prioritized list of safety items requiring attention from data gathered from plant inspections, safety meetings, shift reports, and MSHA inspections.
Schedule and conduct monthly Safety Team inspections.Schedule and coordinate annual audiograms for employees.Schedule and coordinate employee physicals.
Accompany Safety & Health inspectors during onsite inspections.Coordinate and assist in scheduling Supervisor First-Aid, CPR, and AED training, when required.
Direct the plants' Hearing Conservation Programs.Investigate and prepare reports of accidents / injuries that occur on plant property, including employee personal injury, property damage, and near-miss accidents.
Monitor and restock supplies in plant first-aid centers.Maintain and distribute personal protective equipment used in the plant, including respirators, hearing protection, hard hats, safety glasses, and fall protection.
Monitor the fire extinguisher program to ensure appropriate and adequate equipment is installed and maintained in work areas and mobile equipment.
Maintain required reporting schedule of Safety & Health data in Cority.Prepare and submit the MSHA quarterly report.Prepare and submit (in the time frame allowed - 10 days) the MSHA Form 7000-1 (Accident, Injury, and Illness Report) when a reportable accident occurs.
Prepare maintain a record of all employee safety training including MSHA Form 5000-23 (Certificate of Training).Maintain communications with the Corporate Safety & Health Department.
Maintain current working knowledge of all applicable OSHA, MSHA and Covia safety and health policies, procedures, and regulations.
Make all arrangements for drug testing pursuant to company policy. Provide transportation for any persons deemed unfit to operate a motor vehicle.
Administer the safety boot and eyeglass program as per plant policy.Other duties as assignedThe successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalent requiredCollege Degree Given Preference2 years of relevant experience is requiredMSHA experienced preferred or OSHA experience consideredStrong presentation and leadership skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills.
