Health and Safety Manager monitors the removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards, and training of employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Verifies compliance with health and safety regulations and ensures all necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. Being a Health and Safety Manager manages the participation in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Health and Safety Manager acts as advisor to health and safety administration team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a Manager or Head of a Unit/Department. The Health and Safety Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Health and Safety Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Position Description: POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for the overall management and direction of company safety programs within their designated site(s). This critical role ensures safety is at the forefront of our culture at Squan and works to protect employee health and safety. This field-based position is responsible for traveling to job sites daily, and will lead safety by developing and carrying out procedures with the line organization that effectively control accident and health exposures in the company and minimize OSHA citations.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Support, foster, promote and demonstrate Squans Core Values and safety behaviors

    Support and maintain department risk reduction activities
    Maintain working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental, health, safety, and security regulations (EHS)
    Strong understanding of work zone setup and flagging procedures
    Must be able to conduct safety meetings assertively and assist in distributing PPE, safety equipment, and on-site safety forms, i.e. JSAs, SOT forms, and safety truck checklists for all employees
    Will conduct safety training for new and existing employees to comply with OSHA and industry regulations
    Must collect, report, and maintain all safety department documents
    Investigates serious injuries in conjunction with line and staff personnel. Notifies top management of pertinent details
    Evaluates hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs
    Assists in communicating hazard control information and evaluates the effectiveness of the control
    Guides and assists personnel at locations with critical safety and health problems
    Overviews company accident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas
    Works with trade and professional organizations to promote goals and objectives in the health and safety area that affect company's business
    Establishes target areas and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives
    Keeps apprised of developments in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the company
    Travel is required to fulfill the duties of the role (25%)

    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

    Read and understand utility construction maps, drawings, and diagrams
    Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
    Ability to deliver training in a classroom or on the job setting

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    OSHA 30 Certification and/or OSHA 510 required

    Five years of professional safety experience in the construction or utility industry
    Valid Drivers License
    Ability to drive at minimum 50 miles per day

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

    Bilingual in Spanish and English

    Experience working in the Fiber industry, especially with Lineman employees
    Certified Safety Professional (CSP and/or CUSP) Certified Utility Safety Professional status
