Health and Safety Supervisor supervises the identification and remediation of hazardous workplace conditions. Oversees the measurement and sampling of hazardous materials, and any removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Being a Health and Safety Supervisor investigates, analyzes, and reports on any accidents or unsafe events and suggests remedial and preventative actions. Develops a safety conscious culture by providing workforce education on first aid, emergency/safety procedures and regulations. Additionally, Health and Safety Supervisor ensures all necessary records are maintained and are in compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a Manager. The Health and Safety Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Health and Safety Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Here's how a(n) Health Safety and Environment Supervisor for our Orlando office contributes to our team:Responsibilities
- Implements and supports project HSE plans, regulatory requirements, and other safe work practices.
- Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project specific HSE training.
- Implements district HSE communication strategies on projects.
- Recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification.
- Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans.
- Develops and evaluates efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements and the environmental plan.
- Monitors and audits trade contractor HSE performance.
- Participates in on-site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
- Coaches, trains and mentors HSE Coordinators and other employees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Holds safety designation.
- 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a related industry. Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset.
- Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
- Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
