Health and Safety Supervisor supervises the identification and remediation of hazardous workplace conditions. Oversees the measurement and sampling of hazardous materials, and any removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Being a Health and Safety Supervisor investigates, analyzes, and reports on any accidents or unsafe events and suggests remedial and preventative actions. Develops a safety conscious culture by providing workforce education on first aid, emergency/safety procedures and regulations. Additionally, Health and Safety Supervisor ensures all necessary records are maintained and are in compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a Manager. The Health and Safety Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Health and Safety Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Minimum of three years of continuous experience within the past 5 years in supervising/managing dredging, marine or land-based construction, work managing safety programs or processes, or conducting hazards analyses and developing controls in activities or environments with similar hazards.
OSHA-30 Hour construction Safety course or an equivalent 30 hour of formal safety and health training covering the subject of the OSHA-30-hour course.
The SSHO must be able to conduct daily safety and health inspection and maintain a written log which includes area/operations inspection, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections.
Must be able to work 14 day-on/7 day-off- 12 hours a day shift.
Must be willing to travel and live on assigned dredge when applicable.
Must have a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential )
