Health and Safety Supervisor supervises the identification and remediation of hazardous workplace conditions. Oversees the measurement and sampling of hazardous materials, and any removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Being a Health and Safety Supervisor investigates, analyzes, and reports on any accidents or unsafe events and suggests remedial and preventative actions. Develops a safety conscious culture by providing workforce education on first aid, emergency/safety procedures and regulations. Additionally, Health and Safety Supervisor ensures all necessary records are maintained and are in compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a Manager. The Health and Safety Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Health and Safety Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. The Safety Manager develops, monitors and implements Jefferson#39;s health and safety policies; ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies; and is responsible for the reduction and prevention of safety hazards and accidents. This role ensures the health and safety of all Jefferson staff and personnel as well as patients, students and visitors.

Knowledge of chemical toxicity, principles of chemical storage, use and disposal. Knowledge of the selection and use of Personal Protective Equipment. Knowledge of Life Safety, Environment of Care, Emergency Preparedness, IRCA amp; PICRA requirements.
Required Experience, Education, Certifications, Licenses
Minimum of five yearsrsquo; experience in a healthcare institution, university, public or private organization specializing in safety. OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER (within 90 days of hire). Bachelor of Science in environmental safety/protection, occupational safety, related discipline; work experience in healthcare safety may be substituted for the education requirement.
