SUMMARY OF POSITION :
The Healthcare Data Analyst is responsible for customer-focused reporting and analytical support to the clinic/ambulatory leadership in the Penn State Health System. Facilitates the development and maintenance of data collection, analysis, and reporting of internal data and external market and environmental data to assist leadership in making sound business decisions. The Healthcare Data Analyst promotes data integrity by using and developing standards-based measures. This position is within the department of Management Reporting and Decision Support of the Penn State Health Academic Medical Group.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, and/or Healthcare Management required.
Three (3) years of experience in Strategic Planning, Reporting, or Data Analysis is required.
Analytical experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Master's degree of Healthcare Administration is a plus.
Healthcare or hospital experience is a plus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assists management by participating and/or completing forecasting, metric analysis, business process improvement plans and analysis, etc.
Presents complex information in an understandable and compelling manner.
Interprets data and develops recommendations based on findings.
Develops graphs, reports, and presentations of project results.
Gathers, analyzes, and interprets health-related data into actionable information that supports improving and providing access to affordable, quality healthcare.
Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets.
Develops and maintains databases and data systems necessary for projects and department functions.
Acquires primary or secondary data from existing internal or external data sources.
Creates and presents performance dashboards.
Generates routine and ad hoc reports.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, graphing, macros and VBA scripting) required.
Strong communication skills, analytical skills, and an understanding of the academic health environment are required.
Strong Microsoft Suite tools experience (especially Excel and Access) required.
Knowledge of relational databases and querying techniques (e.g. SQL).
Practical knowledge of analysis techniques is required.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure is required.
Excellent computer, organization, and project management skills.
Capacity to quickly adapt to changes in both technology and business environments.
Ability to troubleshoot technical and functional problems.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Ability to produce clear, written operational instructions and supporting documentation.
