Heavy Assembler assembles fabricated parts to large or heavy subassemblies and completes units. Fits, tests, and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. Being a Heavy Assembler conducts welding, riveting, and trimming of parts to fit or align components. Uses hand and power tools, jigs, fixtures, and other assembly equipment. Additionally, Heavy Assembler typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Assembler works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Diversified mechanical or electro-mechanical assembly or sub-assembly of units that are moderately complex, requiring adjusting, fitting, aligning to ordinary tolerances. Requires basic math skills as well as the ability to use common hand tools and operate assembly machines. Works from drawings or specifications and may require print reading. May inspect and test completed units. May rotate stations in a work cell. Work involves frequent handling of moderate to heavy components and may include walking or standing most of the time. Available shifts: Day = Monday - Thursday 4am - 2:30pm.
Essential Functions
1. Run schedule; understand and decipher part numbers.
2. Follow work instructions, drawings, established quality standards, and established safety protocols.
3. Must meet defined production expectations and be on-time to schedule.
4. Read and recognize assembly parts and their subcomponents by size for application of assembly.
5. Package and label product and perform computer transactions.
6. Meet all company work schedule and attendance expectations, and perform within the physical and environmental demands of the job, as described in Section E: Working Conditions.
Additional Job Responsibilities
1. Alert Lead or Supervisor to material shortages, quality or safety issues.
2. Pull materials for assembly and put materials away.
3. Participate in physical inventories.
4. Replenish parts bins.
5. May need to operate a handheld barcode scanner.
6. Participate in process improvement events, as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
2. Must be able to work in a team
3. Possess effective written and verbal communication skills
4. Can effectively read and write
5. Have basic math skills
6. Possess basic computer skills
7. Can properly use and read a tape measure
8. Ability to handle small tools and equipment
9. Must be 18 years of age or older
D. Additional Preferred Qualifications
1. 6 months of experience in a manufacturing/production environment
