Heavy Equipment Operator jobs in Alamogordo, NM

Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment or machinery, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, or excavator, for the purposes of construction, demolition, or excavation. Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors. Has gained full proficiency in a broad range of activities related to the job. To be a Heavy Equipment Operator typically requires 5-7 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    • Loading and unloading tractor trailers.
    • Competently Operate Loader using forks & bucket, stinger and Telehandler Forklift to support industrial oilfield construction activities and snow removal.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Work Experience: Two (2) years’ experience installing flow lines, sales gas tie-ins, and pipeline
    • License/Certifications:
      • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
      • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License Required
      • HazMat Endorsement Preferred
      • Alaska locations only: North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Training required
    • Post Job Offer Requirements:
      • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test
      • Alaska North Slope locations only: Take and pass a Fit-for-Duty Examination

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

    • Knowledge of Heavy Civil Construction and characteristics of all equipment functions and operations.
    • Knowledge of proper equipment use conducive to conditions and assignment.
    • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations and industry practices related to equipment use and operation.
    • Skills in operating heavy equipment and machines proficiently and safely.
    • Skills in daily maintenance of machines including repairs and inspecting equipment to identify possible problems.
    • Ability to use time and equipment efficiently in order to complete projects on time.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.
    • Ability to handle stress and possess positive trait even in difficult or challenging situations.
    • Ability to attend training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department.
