    The City of Wilmington, Ohio, is seeking to build a candidate pool for the position of full-time Heavy Equipment Operator within the Sanitation department. Under the supervision of the Sanitation Superintendent, the Heavy Equipment Operator operates various equipment for the daily operation of the Landfill in accordance with the City of Wilmington Ordinances, Personnel Policies, OSHA safety laws, and any other State and Federal authority.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
    • Operates a variety of equipment associated with landfill processing, including compactor, water truck, track hoe, off-road haul truck, loader, bulldozer; compacts waste after disposal.
    • Excavates new fill sites and covers fill sites with dirt; loads and hauls dirt to various locations within the landfill site, pushes and compacts trash.
    • Builds new roads and berms, and smooths old roads within the landfill site; sprays water on roads and covered sites to accomplish dust control; maintains and repairs perimeter fencing.
    • Assists with surveying new fill cells.
    • Perform periodic preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles and keeps maintenance records on servicing.
    • Attends meetings, serves on committees, and attends training and seminars, as directed.
    • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
    • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • High school diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Must possess a valid State of Ohio class B commercial driver's license (CDL)* and must remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance plan.
    • Applicants may be considered without Class B CDL but would be required to obtain it within six months.

    The pay for this position is consistent with the City's approved pay plan. The starting pay is $19.84 per hour.
    Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, December 5, 2023. The written test will be on Wednesday, December 6 2023, at 4:30 pm, in the Community Room located on the first floor of the Wilmington Municipal Building at 69 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.
    Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be eligible for an interview.
