Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment or machinery, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, or excavator, for the purposes of construction, demolition, or excavation. Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors.     WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

    The Operator will be using equipment such as mini-excavators, trenchers, plows, and reel trailers to perform duties of installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of Telecommunications outside plant including fiber, copper and coax. Daily work will involve traveling to different jobsite locations, survey, plan and execute placing client facilities.

    WHAT YOU GET TO DO

    • Reviewing blueprints or other plans to determine where and how to place plants.
    • Analyze job locations for utility lines, permitting, and traffic control to complete construction activities without quality defects, safety incidents or any type of property damage.
    • Read and understand utility locations and above ground indicators to ensure the safety of the crew and a high level of productivity.
    • Complete daily inspections and reporting of maintenance issues on vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
    • Perform service, safety checks, check oil and fluids, and minor repairs on equipment.
    • Perform construction work such as digging holes, setting handholes/peds and placing duct to poles.
    • Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work.
    • Ensures all work is performed to quality standard while always complying with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices/policies & procedures according to EPC and OSHA/ANSI standards.

    WHAT WILL HELP YOU STAND OUT

    • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
    • CDL is a plus
    • Knowledge of reading prints.
    • Working knowledge of telecommunications preferred.
    • Ability to operate equipment, including, but not limited to power tools, electronic testing equipment, air compressor and heavy equipment such as bucket truck etc.
    • Must have the ability to work safely, with or without supervision.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Prior experience identifying above or below ground utilities or hazards.
    • Experience operating excavators, trenchers, or plows.
    • Prior knowledge of overseeing and maintaining respective equipment.

    WHAT TO EXPECT

    • Outdoors environment which may require exposure to elements, including but not limited to wind, rain, heat, cold, snow, sleet, mud, etc.

    • May be required to lift up to 80 pounds.
