Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors. Operates one or several types of power construction equipment, such as; excavators, backhoes, motor graders, scrapers, compressors, pumps, shovels, tractors, or front-end loaders to excavate, move, and grade earth, and/or erect structures by performing the following duties. Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader. Operate CAT and DEERE Controls. Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material. Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump material
Performs routine maintenance on loader such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning. Work closely with the foreman and pipe layer to ensure that production quotas are met and trenches are excavated safely and efficiently. Ensuring the safety of tools and equipment used in construction and making sure that they are safely put away after work Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance on equipment
