Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment or machinery, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, or excavator, for the purposes of construction, demolition, or excavation. Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors.     • Operating front-end loader as primary job function.: 2 years (Required).

    Full Job Description
    Equipment Operator: 
    • Must have front-end loader experience (example: Volvo 110 or larger) and experience with either a grinder, log loader, or excavator. 
    • This is not an entry-level position. 
    • Applicants without the necessary experience will not be considered. 
    • All eligible applicants should expect to complete a skills demonstration as part of an interview.

     Job Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Operate front-end loader in a safe and efficient manner to meet production needs and customer orders.
    • Prepare soil products for packaging via pad blending.
    • Load Trucks.
    • Feed Grinders, Hoppers, Color Machines, Screeners, etc.
    • Understand product mixes and quality standards.
    • Perform basic maintenance.
    • Maintain a clean machine inside and out.
    • Understand and execute pile management practices.
    • Communicate effectively with other loader operators, truck drivers (customers), and office/sales personnel.
    • Willingness to learn other machinery including forklifts, log loaders, etc.
    • Willing to assist in any direction/task that needs to be accomplished.

    Qualifications/Required Skills:
    • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience operating a front-end loader in a work environment.
    • Mulch and/or soil production experience necessary
    • Must be mechanically inclined.
    • Must be able to perform physical tasks.
    • Good record-keeping skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
    • Ability to work with limited direction.
    • Basic math skills.
    • Reliable transportation.

    Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
    • Work 40 hours during the off-season (July-November); work 50-60 hours including Saturdays in-season.
    • Work indoors & outdoors in varied temperature & weather conditions.
    • Lift 50 lbs.
