Help Desk Supervisor supervises the staff and the day-to-day operations of an organization's technical help desk. Supports and coaches team members on effective methods to research, troubleshoot, and deliver solutions. Being a Help Desk Supervisor trains the team on the help desk systems, processes, tools, and procedures required to document, track, and resolve reported problems and to meet operational service levels and standards. Ensures the latest product/technical updates and policies are available and communicated to the team. Additionally, Help Desk Supervisor monitors request queue and tracks key metrics to ensure sufficient coverage and achievement of service standards. Identifies system and workflow improvements to enhance the team's efficiency. Acts as the escalation point for critical issues and facilitates a final resolution. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Help Desk Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Help Desk Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Under the general direction of the Technical Services & Infrastructure Support Branch Chief, the Information Technology(IT) Supervisor (Sup) II serves as the Helpdesk Supervisor and as the Assistant Systems and Network Administrator. This position supports the California Department of Aging (CDA) and the California Commission on Aging staff applications, systems, and networks. The incumbent is responsible for the guidance, training, scheduling, and overall operations within the IT Helpdesk Unit. Key functional areas include IT customer support for applications, systems, and network support. The IT Sup II is expected to provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders at all times. This position oversees IT staff providing first level Tier 1 and 2 customer support. The IT Sup II will also assume the role of an Assistant Project Manager within the Branch on small to medium size infrastructure and customer support projects. The IT Sup II is responsible for continuity and operation of CDA’s Hybrid Environment, providing remote and on-site customer support. Additionally, this position is responsible for management and administration of CDA’s audio-visual systems, equipment, and operation.

    New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.

    Department Information

    The California Department of Aging (CDA) administers programs that serve older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the State. The Department administers funds allocated under the federal Older Americans Act, the Older Californians Act, and through the Medi-Cal program.

    Recognizing that California’s over-65 population is projected to grow to 8.6 million by 2030, Governor Gavin Newsom issued calling for the creation of a Master Plan for Aging to be developed by December - 2020. The Master Plan will serve as a blueprint that can be used by state government, local communities, private organizations, and philanthropy to build environments that promote healthy aging. CDA will play an integral part in the development and implementation of the Master Plan.
