Duties:
- Responsible for all mountain safety activities such as opening and closing trails, removing, reporting, and marking hazards, performing trail checks, and responding to accidents.
- Assists with and provides care for both medical and traumatic emergencies for patrons utilizing the ski slope, lifts, lodge, or in the immediate area.
- Efficiently and safely provides the appropriate level of direct emergency patient care; which may include determining the nature of injury and equipment needed for stabilization.
- Ensures that patrons comply with applicable ski patrol rules and standards.
- Conducts environmental safety checks of the slopes by continuously reviewing and evaluating terrain to include hazards such as ice, deep snow, downed trees, lifts, snowmaking equipment, and requirements.
Conditions of Employment:

- Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, Chapter 2 to include a National Agency Check with Inquiries is required.
- Must favorably complete a pre-employment medical examination prior to appointment into the position.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs for short distances.
- Must be able to work predominantly outside in a variety of terrain and in extreme cold conditions.
- May go from cold to warm environments on a rotating and continuous basis.
- Must possess and maintain or be able to obtain and maintain the following four certifications within the first 06 months of hire:
- CPR for the professional rescuer or equivalent.
- Red Cross Automated External Defibrillator Certification or equivalent.
- National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification or EMT or Paramedic or Equivalent.
- Must be able to work a regular or rotating schedule that may include evenings or nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to operate and use the various safety and other electronic and automated equipment involved in providing for the well-being of guests as well as the protection and safety of these guests, other employees, and government property.
- Must be able to complete the following courses within six months of employment: MWR Orientation; and Customer Service.
- In case of exposure to infectious disease, the incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to skillfully operate a snowmobile to perform required ski hill patrols and perform a mountain rescue and/or transport patrons and equipment on the most difficult terrain.
- Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Preferred: Candidates who possess the ability to ski/snowboard at an advanced level to perform a mountain rescue and transport on the most difficult terrain.
