  • In this entry-level role consisting of routine manual labor work, you will be required to perform a variety of tasks requiring varying levels of skill and trainingto perform county highway maintenance, improvements, repair, and construction projects, which vary by season.

    Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Highway Maintenance and Construction: Assist in diverse projects, including road widening, pavement repairs, asphalt paving, ditch and bridge maintenance, culvert and drainage installation or repair, installing or repairing guardrail, and roadside vegetation management. Dig holes and trenches with pick, shovel, or other simple tools and backfills excavations. Move supplies and materials by hand, hand trucks, dollies, wheelbarrows, or other devices for moving materials. Perform other duties as assigned by the management team.
    • Traffic Control and Safety: Direct traffic using proper signaling, ensuring the safety of motorists and workers.
    • Equipment Operation: Operate basic equipment such as dump trucks with snow plows, skid steers, bobcats, broom tractor, durapatchers, crack sealer, and hand tools. Hand trucks, dollies, wheelbarrows, or other devices for moving materials. Hand power equipment includes a chainsaw, pole saw, buzz bar, and other forestry implements.
    • Administrative Tasks: Prepare and maintain work records, follow safety protocols.
    • Professionalism and Representation: Act as a positive representative for the Logan County Engineer's Office, the county, and elected offices, demonstrating honesty, integrity and courtesy in all interactions.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Valid Ohio driver's license
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Ability to obtain a State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License (Class B) within six months (on-site training provided)
    • Reside within a 36-minute commute of the Engineer's Office
    • Enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions
    • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 50-100 pounds and working in varying positions and weather conditions
    • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills
    • Ability to work well with others
    • Ability to work overtime, including but not limited to weekends, evening hours, after the regular shift or other times determined by the County Engineer.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing this job's duties, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand on flat and uneven terrain. Use hands to finger, handle, feel, grip, grab, lift, hold, or carry 50-100 pounds. Reach with hands and arms above/below the shoulder. Talk and hear. Frequently required to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Work at extended heights, in precarious places, and on scaffolding. This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions (all seasons; extreme heat/cold, rain, snow). May be exposed to moving highway traffic, mechanical parts, and equipment. May be exposed to gas fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, dirt, grease, loud noise, insects, pollen, and poison ivy. They may also be at risk of electrical shock and vibration.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
