Histology Technician receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures and pathologist review. Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining. Being a Histology Technician maintains accurate tissue and slide records. Cleans and maintains instruments and work areas. Additionally, Histology Technician complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires an associate degree in biology, related science, or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnician certification (HT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Job Description:
This position will be responsible for all areas of histology laboratory testing including but not limited to daily lab duties, compliance monitoring, and facilitating communication with staff and administration. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Please note that the selected candidate may need to work extended hours or vary their usual shift to ensure adequate lab functions and to maintain a high level of service.
Required License/Registration/Certification:
ASCP certification, or eligibility for certification
Qualifications to perform gross evaluation independently
State of WV as a Laboratory Histology Technician/Technologist license required within 90 days of employment.
Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's of Science Degree or higher education with a minimum 5 years of experience as Histotechnologist
