Histology Technician jobs in Springfield, IL

Histology Technician receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures and pathologist review. Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining. Being a Histology Technician maintains accurate tissue and slide records. Cleans and maintains instruments and work areas. Additionally, Histology Technician complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires an associate degree in biology, related science, or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnician certification (HT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.   • Summary

    Performs, interprets, and correlates laboratory procedures that require the broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Maintains equipment and records. Performs quality assessment activities related to test performance. Performs all aspects of the Histology Technician's role. Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis. Performs full range of chemical, microbiologic, immunologic, hematologic and immuno-hematologic laboratory procedures. Differentiates and resolves technical, instrument, and physiologic causes of problems or unexpected test results. Participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory. Incorporates principles of educational methodology in the instruction of laboratory colleagues, other healthcare professionals and patients.

     

    • Full Time, Day Shift and Evening Shift available
    • 40 hours
    • 6:30am - 3:00pm or 11:00pm - 7:30pm

    Qualifications

    Education

    Bachelor of Science Degree required

    Bachelor's degree with 30 hours biology and chemistry and completion of National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited histology technician program OR bachelor's degree with 30 hours biology and chemistry and 1 year full time experience in histopathology

    Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

    American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histology certificate or equivalent from a recognized accrediting agency.
