Duties & Responsibilities:

• Identifies and records tissue samples.
• Processes tissue samples by dehydration, embedding, cutting, staining, special staining procedures, decalcification and frozen cryostat method.
• Maintains slide storage and filing systems.
• Assists the pathologist in preparing for dissection of surgical specimens.
• Requisitions supplies and maintains inventory for laboratory.
• Performs all duties assigned to the Specimen Login and Processing Laboratory (SLAP).
• Evaluates submissions and determine appropriate entries into LIMS.
• Conducts technically sound procedures for handling biological specimens with appropriate biosecurity.
• Identifies and enters appropriate testing methods into database.
• Follows standard operating procedures and quality assurance procedures for proper laboratory security, credibility, and data integrity.
• Maintains database by completing entries.
• Manages and prepares packages for shipping.
• Autoclaves laboratory waste as needed.
• Maintains specimen inventory of the specimen login area laboratory freezer and refrigerator. Disposes of specimens as required.
• Other laboratory duties as delegated by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to work in a Quality Management System
• Understanding of working with standard operating procedures
