Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Summary
Histology Technologist performs histological procedures for the Pathology Department by cutting, staining, and mounting of tissue specimens to provide data on the nature of disease or cause of death. Exercises independent judgement and responsibility with minimum supervision by the respective Supervisor and Laboratory Director.Histology Technologist is responsible for all Pathology billing functions.
Histology Technologist performs and fulfills all HICS (Hospital Incident Command System) responsibilities as directed and needed by the facility in times of emergency disaster.
Required: Associate's degree
Preferred: Bachelor's degree and ASCP certification
Experience
Required: 2 years experience as Histotechnologist
Certifications
Required: Histotechnologist licensure in Florida
